The diesel locomotive: its servicing maintenance, and repair was produced by the Santa Fe Railroad in the Mid 1940s. In a series of visits to various California facilities, the program features the railroad's then new fleet of EM FT diesels (for the full story of the FT, see Mark I video FT-103). The first stop is a tour of the Barstow Shops, where FTs are cleaned and fueled. You'll see an inspection of the prime mover, injectors, electrical equipment, and steam generator, and watch traction motors, carbody air filters, and brake cylinders being maintained. Next, there's an interesting visit to the large Winslow, AZ shops to observe wheel and truck work, followed by a tour of the massive San Bernardino heavy repair facility to view fascinating scenes of a prime mover being lifted out of its carbody. Main bearing and armature repairs are also shown.
