THE U-BOATS NJ Transit U34CHs DVD

This fine program presents the complete history of the NJ Transit U34CHs, the first commuter locomotives built with shaft driven Head End Power (HEP). Ordered by the Erie Lackawanna railroad to replace older diesels equipped with steam generators, these 3600 HP units were constructed by GE at their Erie, PA plant. Deliveries commenced in 1970. The 32 U34CHs employed 3430 HP for traction, while the remaining 170 HP powered the HEP generator to provide heating, lighting, and air conditioning. You'll see the U-boats in action on the Bergen County, Pascack Valley, Morristown, and Boonton lines. Exciting track side sequences are combined with in cab, ChoochCam, snow, and night scenes. Rare archive footage of Lackawanna and Erie steam and diesel power is also included. A memorable tribute to a truly historic locomotive. 120 Minutes - Hi-Fi Sound, Maps, Color with some B/W Archive Film, Narrated
