The film footage presented here were shot by Richard T. Lane, a 20-year employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Mr. Lane's work captures the spectacle of the Pennsylvania Railroad's finest moment as it staged the transportation service for the Army-Navy Games in Philadelphia from 1955-1965. Philadelphia's Municipal Stadium is the focal point of our historic tour of this classic annual rite of railroading. View the action at STADIUM, ARSENAL, WEST PHILADELPHIA ELEVATED BRANCH and GREENWICH YARD. See B&O trains transporting Annapolis midshipmen and the PRR arriving with West Point cadets in NYC coaches. Catch the GG-1's, MP-54's, MK-85's, and E8's with their spit and polish shine on review, pulling all manner of heavyweight PULLMAN varnish to Budd built stainless steel coaches. Witness the parade of pooled foreign road passenger equipment the PRR enlisted for the game.
Mr. Lane has given the viewer factually correct, narrative detail, rendering this tape a truly great piece of history. After retiring from the Pennsylvania Railroad, Mr. Lane became the curator of the Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine. He continues his interest in railroading as a member of the National and the Philadelphia Chapters of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historic Society and a member of the National Railway Historic Society.
